OVERVIEW

This position works closely with the Probation Department Victim Assistance Coordinator and the Restorative Justice team (VCRJT). The individual will support, engage, and empower victims and survivors as we assist them in navigating the criminal legal system. Duties will also involve enforcing the Victims’ Rights Amendment. The individual will collaborate with many entities including probation officers, attorneys, community agencies and law enforcement. Additionally, an important aspect of this position will be offering and potentially facilitating restorative opportunities to both victims/survivors and probation clients.

Collaborate with community partners/collateral contacts (District Attorneys, Public Defenders, Victim/Survivor agencies, Law Enforcement, Child Support, Restorative Justice organizations, etc.)

  • Written and verbal communication with victims/survivors, clients, and collateral contacts
  • Attend team meetings and other meetings in probation and collateral agencies
  • Support Victim Assistance Coordinator with protection orders, Pre-Sentence Investigations, Restitution, and other victim/survivor needs
  • Monitor VRA compliance within probation
  • Enter data from case work, proof-read, and revise documents
  • Help review and analyze data
  • Assess probation clients and other parties for readiness for RJ processes
  • Support and participate in trainings, events, and activities of the VCRJT
  • Work with volunteers and staff to support efforts of VCRJT
  • Enter data in Access database
  • Learn and use a wide variety of probation/court tools

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • College degree
  • 1-year minimum commitment
  • Interest in restorative practices and working with victims
  • Able to work both on site in the 20th JD Probation Department offices and virtually
    • Boulder County Probation is located primarily in Boulder at 1777 6th Street as well as Longmont at 1035 Kimbark Street on the 2nd floors of each courthouse.
  • Pass a background check

 

Preferred:

  • Graduate level student
  • Experience in Criminal Justice, Restorative Justice, Social Work, or another related field
  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Some training or experience with victims and/or restorative justice practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft- particularly Access, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of victim resources in Boulder County and beyond

Location: Boulder, CO
Pay: $22.00/hour 
Hours: Full time – up to 40 hours/week – starts June 1st
Can be used for internship credit(s)
