The mission of Behavioral Treatment Services is to provide accessible, integrated, and inclusive behavioral health services supporting clients throughout the criminal justice system. Behavioral Treatment Services provides a continuum of specialized adult offender substance abuse and other treatment modalities. Being a part of the BTS team means being a part of the forefront of Colorado’s behavioral health and criminal justice programs and initiatives. Our goals are to provide a space toward client healing, reduce criminal recidivism, assist clients in working towards personal growth, and collaborate with the system and client to work towards mutually agreeable goals.

BTS provides clinical services, court related services, and specialized programs for adults involved in the criminal justice system. BTS provides services at community corrections sites (including residential treatment programs), outpatient locations, jail based, and court liaison programs in 9 counties across Colorado.

Clinical Therapist is responsible for providing clinical assessment evaluations, individual and group therapy, education groups, case management and follow up support to clients to help them become more successful in the community and to promote public safety. Complete a variety of required documentation.

Hours: Full Time - M-F
 Temporary, but may become full-time
Salary: $26.45 - $67 an hour (based on licensure) 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support, promote and adhere to BTS’s mission, values and Code of Conduct.
  • Reflect BTS’s commitment to treating all persons with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and company information.
  • Carry out all duties/responsibilities in accordance with Company values, policies and procedures, applicable laws and contractual obligations. 
  • Conduct mental health and substance use evaluations to assess client’s appropriateness for program, assessing the need for on-going treatment or referral to other agencies.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions to assist clients in overcoming dependencies, developing pro-social behavior or making other appropriate behavior or cognitive changes.
  • Collaborate with client to develop, implement, and revise individualized treatment plans 
  • Encourage clients to develop and use skills and strategies for confronting their problems in a constructive manner.
  • Follows professional ethical standards and agency policies and procedures regarding risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis intervention
  • Review and evaluate clients' progress in relation to measurable goals described in treatment and care plans.
  • Integrate Motivational Interviewing into all aspects of counseling.
  • Provide psycho-education classes and other educational presentations on substance abuse, mental illness.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation and reports in all areas including, but not limited to: counselor’s admit notes, assessments, daily charting, weekly clinical staffing notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate with families, probation/parole officers, and community agencies regarding treatment, discharge and aftercare plans.
  • Attend treatment team, jail program staff meetings, clinical staffing and other required meetings.
  • Drive personal car to court, jail and/or other sites as required, including in adverse weather
  • Attend required trainings and meetings, apply skills and knowledge.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Good steward of Company human, financial and capital resources.
  • Participate effectively as a team member through communication, cooperation, information sharing and problem solving.
  • Any other tasks or duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrates competency in accordance with the 12 core counseling functions defined by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field;
  • Certification as a Certified Addictions Counselor II (CAC II), CAC III preferred
  • Must be a Colorado registered (DORA) LPCC, LSW, LMFTC or NLC
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use clinical reasoning techniques and clinical judgment when 
    applying a range of appropriate assessment techniques, such as mental status assessment, diagnosis, 
    dynamic formulation, and potential treatment planning.
  • Experience with applying the characteristics and foundations of behavioral therapy, which focuses on 
    changing patients` unwanted or negative behavior.
  • Familiarity with types of psychotherapy for individuals or groups according to 
    psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral, humanistic/experiential, systemic/family 
    methods and other appropriate psychological therapies.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based treatment modalities
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to enter data into variety of computer software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LPC or LAC Certification
  • Licensed clinician in respective discipline: LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LAC
  • Experience working in a substance abuse treatment program with a diverse population;
  • Experience providing substance abuse treatment to adult offenders;
  • Familiar with evidence-based treatment models;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
