Intervention, Inc. provides services within the criminal justice system across the state of Colorado including sobriety monitoring (UAs/BAs), electronic monitoring, probation supervision and community corrections.   We offer a comprehensive benefit package including paid vacation, sick and holiday leave, medical and dental insurance and a generous 401(k) retirement plan.



Office Location - Golden

This is a full-time, benefit eligible grant funded position with current funding through June 2017.




Summary
The Victim Services Specialist
works with the on-site Program Manager, Program Director and the Victim Services Director and within Intervention's policy and procedures, to provide comprehensive services to victims of crimes, including domestic violence, in a dignified and respectful environment.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support, promote and adhere to the mission, values and Code of Conduct of Intervention Inc.
  • Reflect Intervention Inc.s’ commitment to treating all persons with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and company information.
  • Provide initial notification to each victim and provides a copy of the Victim Rights Amendment to any victim upon request and provides Critical Stage Event Notification to any victim upon request.
  • The VSS will implement Intervention’s Victim Services Policy on a face-to-face intake procedure, if necessary, to help identify victim needs.
  • Provide referrals as needed to crisis intervention programs, shelters, medical and dental clinics, legal aid, nonprofit organizations, job training, food banks, adult education, child care agencies, housing, communities of faith, mental health services, support groups and human service organizations as needed.
  • Provide personal assistance to victims for finding and applying for victim compensation and victim assistance funds and others.
  • Assist victims with collection of restitution if necessary, and intercede with employers if needed to allow the victim to testify in court.
  • Cultivate a resource and referral bank and establish partnerships with victim and other organizations concerned with victim rights and criminal justice practices.
  • Attend all community and local committee and group meetings concerning domestic violence and domestic violence victims that may be coordinated by the Probation Department, District Attorney and other coalitions, including overnight outside metro Denver COVA conference
  • Provide or arrange for translation services and/or transportation if needed, and educate victims and their families about the criminal justice system, the process and expectations.
  • Maintain victim files according to Intervention policy and procedures and criminal justice system best practices.



Qualifications
Education: Associate or Bachelors degree in Human Services, Psychology, Sociology or related field preferred
Consideration will be given to candidates who possess a certificate of achievement as a Colorado Crime Victim Advocate. 

Experience:  At least one year experience working with victims of crime or people in crisis and/or trauma or one year of experience as a volunteer crime victim advocate.

Skills:
  • Ability to enter data, generate reports and create communications from variety of software programs and databases
  • Ability to communicate effectively interpersonally and in writing
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to communicate effectively with people in crisis
  • Knowledge of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus
